Building Help --> Rippin' Rocket™ Roller Coaster

General tips:

Isolating the problem often gets you more then half way to a solution, so after you have finished building go over the instructions carefully to be sure that all the pieces are in the right place, and you have not skipped anything. Then, as you are trouble-shooting your model, run the car several times while you are carefully watching to see where the problem is. You may need to get down at coaster level to examine the area carefully as the car is operating. This will give you a good indication of exactly what may be causing the problem, and then your common sense or one of these solutions may be helpful in solving it:

Notes to the Instruction Book:
ON/OFF switch is not shown on the Turbo Boosters on pages 28 thru 33. Use the direction of the arrow on the Turbo Booster as indicated in the instructions as your guide for proper positioning.

When working on page 9 steps 1,2 & 3 be sure you are building flat along the floor. The image in the instruction book gives the illusion of building "up" or vertical. This section is actually one of the curves in the flat track and should lay flat on the floor with the exception to the dark grey rods under the #2 and the small gray rod structure attached to the purple connectors at step #3. Refer to the picture labeled "A" in the upper left corner of page 9 to see where this section fits into the entire model.

Other possible trouble spots:

1) I think my Rippin' Rocket is missing parts.

Be sure you have gone through the Part Count on page 7 of your instruction book if you think you are missing a piece then give us a call at 1(800)KID-KNEX.

2) I can't get the sections of my Rippin' Rocket to fit together properly.

The faded areas on each page show how the section you are building fits onto what you have already built. If you are having trouble getting one section to fit onto another properly, be sure you have both full-color and shaded sections oriented (facing the same direction) as they are in the book. You should not have to force anything to fit.

3) I have to pull the flexible yellow Rods to hook them into the orange Connectors and sometimes they won't reach at all.

As you attach the yellow Track Connectors to each flexible Rod, be sure you are not twisting the Rod lengthwise as you attach the Connectors. This will make the Rod just slightly shorter with each twist and also bend the track at an odd angle. If you are done the coaster and your track doesn't include smooth bends and turns, it may be the result of the Rods being twisted in some places.

4) My car is hitting the light gray Connector on the outside rail when it goes into the last curve before the lower Turbo booster.

Adjust position of light gray Connector on yellow Rod by pushing it forward or backward along the Rod. If this doesn't help, try attaching the light gray Connector to the Rod from the outside of the track.

5) My car is shooting out of the Turbo booster the wrong way.

Check the direction of the arrow on the Booster. It should point the way the car should go.

6) If you are using a universal Adapter as an alternate power source for your Rippin' Rocket Turbo Boosters and the Turbo Boosters are not working:

  1. Are you using the correct Adapter: 4.5 volt AC\DC 1000 mA
  2. Try flipping the tip on the Adaptaplug so that the symbol " - " (minus sign) rather that " + " (plus sign) is aligned with the word "TIP" on the power cord. Note: This is opposite what is indicated in your instruction book but may be necessary if your Turbo Booster is not functioning.

  3. The Adaptaplug size needed is O.D. 5.5mm, I.D. 2.1mm
If you have tried these things and are still having difficulty, please contact us at 1(800)KID-KNEX between 8:30 AM and 5:00 PM Eastern Standard Time, Monday through Friday.

7) Are the Rippin' Rocket and Screamin' Serpents pieces compatible?

No. Tubing, track Connectors and flexible Rods for the Screamin’ Serpent and the Rippin’ Rocket are compatible and cars from either set will roll on either track; however, the cars are not interchangeable with regard to mode of operation. If you would like to join the 2 coasters, decide on either the Turbo boosters or the Power Pack and Chain as your power source and use the cars from the cooresponding coaster on the track.

8) Can I use more than 1 car on my Rippin' Rocket?

Additional cars for the Rippin' Rocket are not available at this time. Adding more than one car to the track at a time may lead to cars bumping into each other as they go around the track or cars falling backwards into the Turbo Booster possibly damaging the front or back of one of the cars. Also, the Turbo Boosters may not be able to regain enough speed to shoot the second car all the way around the vertical loop.
