Building Help --> Screamin' Serpent:

General tips:

Isolating the problem often gets you more then half way to a solution, so after you have finished building go over the instructions carefully to be sure that all the pieces are in the right place and you have not skipped anything. Then, as you are trouble-shooting your model, run the cars several times while you are carefully watching to see where the problem is. You may need to get down at coaster level to examine the area carefully as the car or Chain is operating. This will give you a good indication of exactly what may be causing the problem and then your common sense or one of these solutions may be helpful in solving it:

Notes to the Instruction Book:
1. If you are having trouble attaching section D on page 38 to sections A, B & C, refer to page 44, #74, in the Screamin' Serpent instruction book for detailed instructions. Below is a view of that connection from the center of the Roller Coaster as well:

2. In section 131 on page 75 the instructions omit a black bar extending downward about ½ inch out of the first orange hole on the portion of the car that is directly above the number "131". It should be to the right of the red arrow but was omitted in the instructions. You will see it on your car in that spot and it should definitely remain there. This piece is called the "dog" and it is what catches on the Chain at the base of the hill and allows the car to be pulled up the hill.

3. In section 133 on page 75, numbers 17 and 19 are reversed for application of the stickers and sticker #1 will not be used on the car at all.

4. The Electric Motor Pack referred to on page 27 is an optional accessory. The red battery operated Power Pack that is included with the set and is designed to operate the set properly. You do not need to purchase any separate motor in order to have the model operate effectively.

Other possible trouble spots:

1) My car is stuck or hesitating at the top of the hill.

Solution #1 -

  • The center strip of purple Tubing that goes on the hill needs to stop at the top of the hill on the last green Cross Tie (the one just before the brown Connectors in front of the red Gears at the top of the hill). If you have cut your Tubing too short so that it will not reach this green Cross Tie, simply pull the center Tubing up the track to make it fit. It is more important to have the purple Tubing at the right spot at the top of the track than it is at the bottom of the track. Also be sure that the Chain is not catching on that center purple Tubing at the base of the hill. If it is, you may need to cut a bit more Tubing off at the bottom (but do not do this until you are sure it is at the right spot at the top of the hill).

    Also, be sure the Chain is not catching at the base of the hill on that same piece of Tubing that runs up the hill. You may need to cut a bit of that purple Tubing off at the bottom if the Chain is catching there. The figures in the cars also need to be distributed evenly throughout the cars - don't put them all in the front or the back.

    2) I'm almost done putting the green flexible Rods at the base of the hill but the last green flexible Rod on the outer track just before the hill won't reach the brown Connector or extends beyond where it should attach.

    Solution #2 -

  • As you attach the green flexible Rods in each section throughout the Roller Coaster, be sure to check the instructions for the proper alignment of the brown Connectors and green Cross Ties on each side of the track. Are they right next to each other or are they slightly offset? If the alignment of your brown Connectors does not match what is in the instructions exactly, STOP and go back to the point where they last matched the instructions. Then re-attach. (Use illustration on page 55 for an example of offset brown Connectors.) Finally, if all is aligned and your last green flexible Rod on the outer track is still just slightly too long (1/2" to 1"), take out the last 3 green Cross Ties and attach the green flexible Rod at both ends and use the green Cross Ties to hold the green flexible Rod in place.

    3) Are the Rippin' Rocket and Sreamin' Serpents pieces compatible?

    Tubing, track Connectors and flexible Rods for the Screamin’ Serpent and the Rippin’ Rocket are compatible and cars from either set will roll on either track; however, the cars are not interchangeable with regard to mode of operation. If you would like to join the 2 coasters, decide on either the Turbo boosters or the Power Pack and Chain as your power source and use the cars from the cooresponding coaster on the track.
