Technology education teacher, Steve Marotta appears engulfed in a sea of K'NEX Education creations. In actuality, it's his classroom: and that is only one view of his room. Click on the images above to see how an Eastern Pennsylvania classroom has become a wonderland of K'NEX Education models, explorations, and investigations. The expressions of awe and excitement on the faces of students and adults alike as they enter this classroom are very inspiring. Steve has motivated students for years and used K'NEX Education materials to recharge his Technology Education program. His goal is to ensure that he has a classroom that excites students and stimulates their desire to create, explore, and learn. As you review the photos above, you will notice the emphasis on standards-based instruction, scoring rubrics, and exemplars. The students follow a predetermined sequence of activities as they complete the various instructional modules that form the basis for Steve's Tech Ed. Program. Computer simulations, in addition to the various K'NEX Education modular stations provide students with learning experiences that are rigorous yet fun and exciting. If you spend time in Steve's classroom with his students, you can not help but be a part of the activity. Students want to show you what they are working on and are not shy about asking for some building hints and advice. The room is a beehive of activity: great minds of the future are at work here creating fascinating models and building their own understanding at the same time. Every student maintains their work in folders and they are constantly jotting down notes or logging information as to their progress. If you sit back and watch Steve work for a while you see, first-hand, what the term 'facilitator' means. He has provided the organization and structure that enables things to run smoothly and seamlessly. The large group instruction station in the center of the room is a cart loaded with technology that enables Steve to incorporate a variety of media into his large group presentations for the whole class. We at K'NEX Education and the rest of the K'NEX Group commend Steve Marotta and his efforts at Drexel Hill Middle School. He is inspiring and molding the youth of today to be our future. Well done Steve!
