6th grade teacher, Christopher Triola from Erie County, writes an article that discusses real world learning and how K’NEX and K’NEX Education sets help students learn STEM skills that apply to real life. Triola discusses at length an amusement park project he did with his students. Former world land speed record holder, Richard Noble OBE dropped in on the Royal British Legion to check on the team’s life-size replica of the Bloodhound Supersonic Car. The giant model is being built by a team of ex-servicemen and women in a bid to achieve Guinness world Record status for the World’s Largest K’NEX Structure. On August 14th, K’NEX and The Rodon Group President and CEO, Michael Araten, participated in the Walmart sponsored U.S. Manufacturing Summit in Denver, CO. Walmart executives, industry experts, suppliers, and component manufacturers gathered for two days to discuss Walmart’s commitment to spending an additional $50 billion on investment of American-made products. Michael wrote an article explaining the impact of the summit and why he attends year after year.

The exhibit will be on display in Terminal A-West, post-security, and is accessible to ticketed passengers through October 2014. A talented team of 6 K’NEX designers and engineers worked together for nearly 170 hours to create K’NEX: Innovative Engineering @Play, an amazing 7-foot tall kinetic structure made up of more than 48,000 made in the USA K’NEX parts.
The SelectUSA Investing in America roundtable discussion, hosted by the President, with Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker, Senior Advisor Valerie Jarrett, and National Economic Council Director Jeff Zients, brought together 11 companies that have recently chosen to invest in the United States, together. We are pleased to announce the launch of our 15th annual K’NEXpert Search contest, which challenges young builders to design and submit a creative, original model made entirely from K’NEX parts.
Entries will be judged on originality, creativity, and complexity of the model; age will also be taken into account. The contest will have four Grand Prize Winners—one from each of the four different age group categories. Age groups include: 5-6 years old; 7-8 years old; 9-11 years old; and 12-14 years old. The Grand Prize Winners will each receive a prize package valued at approximately $2,000.
Grand Prize Winners will receive packages that include: $1,000, an iPad Mini and a $500 K’NEX credit code good toward a shopping spree at knex.com, while eight additional finalists will each receive a $100 K’NEX credit code and a K’NEX T-shirt.

Fresh off his victory in the Democratic primary, Pennsylvania gubernatorial candidate Tom Wolf visited K’NEX manufacturing facility, The Rodon Group, as part of his “Fresh Start Tour.”
Wolf spent time visiting with employees of The Rodon Group, a plastics manufacturer most famous for its K’NEX line of construction toys, and toured the plant before presenting a “Made in Pennsylvania” plan to increase the number of manufacturing jobs in the state. The 2014 K’NEX STEM Design Challenge took place on May 2nd at Harrisburg University. Students were challenged to build a people mover out of K’NEX and were judged on presentations kills, creativity and more. School across Pennsylvania participated in this event which started with an inspiration speech from PA Gov. Tom Corbett. K’NEX Education will be participating in the third USA Science & Engineering Festival Expo hosted by founding and presenting sponsor Lockheed Martin. Designed to inspire the next generation of innovators, the Festival allows kids and adults to participate in more than 3,000 hands-on activities, as well as see more than 100 live stage performances.
The K’NEX Education Build and Learn Zone invites kids of all ages to have fun with hands-on learning while designing, building, investigating, problem solving, and evaluating scientific and design principles in action using K’NEX rods, connectors, gears, tires, and hubs at interactive building stations. Kids will have the opportunity to chat with K’NEX designers and engineers, and teachers can stop by and learn how K’NEX Education building sets can complement their STEM curriculum.
K’NEX Education®, America’s STEM Building Solution, recently announced a new building competition for Pennsylvania students in grades 4-8. The 2014 STEM Design Challenge will be hosted by Harrisburg University on May 2nd and is sponsored by three outstanding Pennsylvania organizations: K’NEX, Thermo-Fisher Scientific, and Allegheny Intermediate Unit (IU3). The STEM Design Challenge encourages students to work as teams to answer a challenge. This year teams are challenged to create an environmentally friendly “people mover.” Each team also needs to bring a blueprint and prepare a 2 minute presentation on how their model answered the challenge. Teams will be judged on creativity, teamwork, challenge success, design and presentation.
Thousands of students took part in the K’NEX Bloodhound Racing Challenge held last month at Birmingham's NEC. Hosted by world land speed record challengers, the Bloodhound team, the activity enabled children to get hands on with K’NEX as they built their own super cars.
Aiming to encourage young people to develop a passion for careers in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), the Big Bang Fair attracted around 60,000 attendees including students, teachers and parents. For more information click here.

Over 400 Goddard Schools nationwide will be participating in TEACH. PLAY. LEARN., beginning January 13 and running through February 14, 2014. During this time each school will hold an open house at which children can take place in the “21st Century Build Challenge”, a fun event in which children will be asked to use TINKERTOY parts, made and distributed by K’NEX to create with a new invention parts that solves a problem. Children will work together to create stories about how these inventions work and schools will submit their invention for a contest on The Goddard School National Facebook Page. On January 7th K’NEX Education hosted a Forces, Energy & Motion STEM Workshop for 25 teachers from Bucks and Montgomery County. The workshops were aimed at providing teachers with the tools they need to get students excited about STEM (science, technology, engineering and math). Our country faces a critical shortage of qualified STEM workers and K’NEX Education is helping teachers prepare today’s students for tomorrow’s STEM jobs.
