Question and Answer:

When did you start building with K'NEX?
I began building with KID K'NEX when I was 3 years old.

How did you come up with the idea for your winning model?
I pictured 3 dresses on hangers on a rack, like I saw on the cover of an American Girl Craft book. I also wanted to make an artist easel and a store to go with the dresses. Time constraints narrowed these ideas down to only one dress. After deciding on a hoop skirt style dress, I decided to make a powdered wig to go with it, like Felicity would have worn. Then I made a rack with lots of different earrings hanging from it, but decided to have a fan in my hand instead of holding the earring rack. So I wore one pair of earrings, and decided to make a necklace and bracelet to go with it. Ever since I played with KID K'NEX, I have liked to make flowers, so this was a perfect chance to decorate with them. I think K'NEX can be used to make anything, even feminine things!

What has been your most challenging K'NEX creation?
The Secret Apple tree was hard to support the weight of the apples on the tree limbs.

Do you have a favorite past K'NEXpert? If so, who?
Matthew of 2009, with his Mega Wheel Ball Blaster.

How many siblings do you have? What are their age(s) and gender(s)?
Sheryl is 30, Lori is 28, and Matthew is 16.

Do they build with K'NEX too? Do you build models together?
Matthew likes to build with K'NEX, but we like to build different kinds of models, so I build with my niece instead.

What are your favorite hobbies (besides building with K'NEX)?
I like almost anything that is related to arts or crafts. I also like playing on my computer, reading, jumping rope, and running miles.

What is your favorite subject in school?
My favorite subject is creative writing.

What do you want to be when you grow up?
I want to be a mother, teacher, and a writer.

What is the coolest part about being a 2012 K'NEXpert?
Saving for college with the bond! I also like to get Birthday cards!

What advice do you have for other kids who want to be K'NEXperts?
Plan your project. Stay organized. I like to separate all of my rods and connectors in bins so it is easier to build quickly, and I can know if I have enough pieces for my plan. Begin to build it early, because you will probably have to make changes. When you get frustrated, take a break, and come back to it later. Keep the goal in mind.
