Question and Answer: When did you start building with K'NEX?
I got my first Kid K’NEX when I was 4. When I was 6 I found a K’NEX roller coaster at a garage sale and since it was already put together my mom said I could get it. From there I just started getting as many coasters as could. Pretty soon my whole room was filled with them.
How did you come up with the idea for your winning model?
My idea sort of developed as I worked. I added to it as I went along.
What has been your most challenging K'NEX creation?
The Frogtown Flipper.
Do you have a favorite past K'NEXpert? If so, who?
My favorite past K’NEXpert is Ian. He created the Chinese Imperial Dragon in 2010. I am glad I wasn’t competing against him.
How many siblings do you have? What are their age(s) and gender(s)?
I have an 8 year old sister.
Do they build with K'NEX too? Do you build models together?
She doesn’t build a lot but she has entered the K’NEXpert contest twice so far.
What are your favorite hobbies (besides building with K'NEX)?
Video games, especially Mario games, Boy Scouts, camping, biking & sports. I play soccer, basketball & baseball.
What is your favorite subject in school?
What do you want to be when you grow up?
K’NEX designer or possibly work for Nintendo designing video games.
What is the coolest part about being a 2013 K'NEXpert?
The great prizes and visiting the factory. I got to do that in 2010 and I can’t wait to go back.
What advice do you have for other kids who want to be K’NEXperts?
Enter the contest. Don’t think that what you create wouldn’t be good enough to win. If something doesn’t work, try it again a different way. Keep building and imagining.
