Question and Answer:
When did you start building with K'NEX?
I started building with K’nex when I was four years old.
How did you come up with the idea for your winning model?
Last year, my creation did not have the most descriptive name, and didn’t make it past the voting round. Consequently, I tried to think of something that would appeal to voters, and this year’s model was the result.
What has been your most challenging K'NEX creation?
My most challenging creation was no doubt the jam machine itself. For maintenance and inserting track towards the middle, I had to reach past layer upon layer of whatever happened to be in the way. Also, the highest points required a chair.
Do you have a favorite past K'NEXpert? If so, who?
I really liked Lucas’ Hyperspeed roller coaster from 2007, but now I prefer Richard’s Uber from this year.
How many siblings do you have? What are their age(s) and gender(s)?
I have a sister, aged 11 (although that will be out of date shortly), and a brother, aged 9.
Do they build with K'NEX too? Do you build models together?
My brother will sometimes join in if there’s enough left over, but my sister never does.
What are your favorite hobbies (besides building with K'NEX)?
Making fonts and building with other construction systems.
What is your favorite subject in school?
Both math and science take preference.
What do you want to be when you grow up?
Most probably an astronomer, but I enjoy thinking up ideas for building toys.
What is the coolest part about being a K'NEXpert?
For me, it’s probably being able to introduce others to the possibilities and educational benefits provided by K’NEX.
What advice do you have for other kids who want to be a K’NEXpert?
Pay maximum attention to detail, try to use anything that pops into your head, give it a theme, and use everything efficiently.
