Question and Answer:
When did you start building with K'NEX?
I started building with K'NEX when I was 5 years old. That was when I received my first 15 model set for a birthday present.
How did you come up with the idea for your winning model?
I wanted to build something interactive and challenging, but big and elaborate to make an ultimate K'NEX creation. I wanted to combine my interest in roller-coasters with Ball Bonanza, so I constructed twisting drops and turns like a roller-coaster in which balls would roll down. I wanted to make it into a game that kids of all ages could play and enjoy. Players can challenge themselves with the track switcher and the catapult to get more points. I thought this would be an original creation and something new to create using K'NEX.
What has been your most challenging K'NEX creation?
Ball Bonanza was the most challenging of all my creations because I had to tweak all of the tracks and tinker around to make it all work together.
Do you have a favorite past K'NEXpert? If so, who?
My favorite K'NEXpert is Tim from the K'NEXpert 2009 contest. He made a giant beast that looked solid and detailed.
How many siblings do you have? What are their age(s) and gender(s)?
I have one younger brother. His name is Wesley and he is 8 years old.
Do they build with K'NEX too? Do you build models together?
Wesley builds with K'NEX too, but we don't usually build models together. We did work together on his very first roller-coaster and I help him along the way when he runs into trouble.
What are your favorite hobbies (besides building with K'NEX)?
I am interested in model rockets, robotics, model airplanes and building contraptions of all kinds. I like to incorporate K'NEX when I build robots. I use pieces for the chassis, the wheels and even the eyes, arms and hands. I modified some of the K'NEX motors to interact with my circuits.
What is your favorite subject in school?
My favorite subjects in school are Science and Music. I like hands-on activities and doing experiments in Science and playing around with the keyboard in music to create cool sounds.
What do you want to be when you grow up?
I would like to be a roller-coaster designer or a robotic engineer. What is the coolest part about being a 2012 K'NEXpert?I like all of the prizes, and most of all being able to go to the K'NEX Headquarters. That is amazing! What advice do you have for other kids who want to be K'NEXperts?I think K'NEX models need to be original. Think of something nobody has invented yet or has never been created. Use your imagination! Anyone can do it - it just takes effort.
